About our organisation

A brief history

Homeless Network Scotland was established in 1980 to bring together the different sectors, organisations and individuals that want to put an end to homelessness and to retain a long-term overview. This overarching purpose is as true today as it was then.

1980

Established in Glasgow

New legislation and rights: Housing (Scotland) Act

1987

Rough Sleeping Initiative launched in Scotland

1997

Renamed Glasgow Homelessness Network

2002

New Legislation
and Rights Homelessness etc
(Scotland) Act 2003

2003

Glasgow’s 5 year Hostel Closure
Programme begins

2003

Health and Homelessness Standards introduced for HNS Boards

2005

Statutory Guidance on Preventing Homelessness published

The 2012 target: Removal of Priority Need

Launch of Housing First Scotland
